Since retiring in 2019, he has pursued a deep interest in WWII history, sparked by his father-in-law Royce Colby, a B-24 radio operator with the 491st Bomb Group whose plane came down over Leefdaal, Belgium in November 1944 — a connection that has brought Peter's family back to Belgium many times. He has followed the D-Day Squadron since the 2019 Oxford, Connecticut fly-in, and belongs to the National WWII Museum, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth, and the New England Air Museum.
