DC-3 Society | 90th Anniversary Events

Let's Celebrate!
This December 17, the DC-3 made its maiden flight in 1935, 90 years ago. Today, nearly 200 DC-3 variants are treasured aircraft still flying today. They are incorporated into Part 91 flight departments, used for cargo and freight, missionary flights, emergency response operations, flying museums, airshows and more!

The Grand Dame, the legendary DC-3s, is famed all over the world. An aircraft so accomplished in war and in peace, a DC-3 Society was formed in her honor. This society is a prized space for DC-3 owners, operators, pilots and maintainers, enthusiasts and historians, our youth and even professional media to thrive, share and seek resources and benefit from membership in various ways. It's a community focused on celebrating the aircraft that changed air travel to what it is today. Check our out new DC-3 Society member levels and benefits here: https://www.dc3society.org/join

DC-3 Society Celebrated 90 Years of the Douglas DC-3 at AirVenture 2025
The DC-3 Society marked the 90th anniversary of the legendary Douglas DC-3 with a week of commemorative events at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025. The celebrations spotlighted the aircraft’s historic contributions to both military and civil aviation, especially its critical role during World War II.
Throughout the week, we were able to participate in:
-
Formation flights and flyovers featuring DC-3s and its military variant, the C-47.
-
Society member gatherings to honor the aircraft and the vibrant community keeping its legacy alive.

Aircraft operators include those that returned to Europe as part of the DC-3 Society’s major commemorative missions on the D-Day 75th and 80th anniversaries, and the Berlin Airlift 70th and 75th anniversaries:

-
C-47 Placid Lassie
-
C-47 Vaerus Jet Sales
-
DC-3 Western Airlines
-
C-47 Virginia Ann
-
DC-3 Private Owner - Jordan & Nicole Brown

Also joined with the DC-3 Society was the A-26 Million Airess, a twin-engine light bomber with a decorated combat record from World War II through the Cold War. This aircraft also flew in the DC-3 Society’s 2024 Legacy Tour, supporting D-Day 80 and Berlin Airlift 75
